SUSPECT IN KILLING AT BGY. WEST BAJAC-BAJAC, SURRENDERS

One of two suspects in the killing of 60-year-old Wilfredo Padel surrendered on October 5, 2011.

Olongapo City PNP Director Christopher Tambungan presented the suspect identified as Ronald Tamayo, 22 to Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. while the other suspect, Lincoln Catolico, 37, is still the subject of manhunt operation.

According to the initial investigation of Olongapo City Police Office (OCPO), Station 1, on October 1, Padel had a heated argument with Tamayo and Catolico because Padel was trying to get their land title from his common-law partner, Trinidad Castillo, grandmother of Tamayo.

When the argument worsened, the two suspects pulled knives and stabbed Padel. The victim managed to retaliate by hitting them with a dustpan but Padel fell on the ground when the two continued to maul and stab him. The suspects fled from the scene after the incident.

Subsequently, Padel was immediately rushed to James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH) but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

“Kusang loob na sumuko si Tamayo habang pinag-hahanap naman ng mga awtoridad ang nakatakas na si Catolico,” Station 1 Commander PCI Cesar Cabling said, while Tamayo denied the charges, “Nagkusa po akong sumuko dahil malinis po ang konsensya ko na wala po akong kasalanan.”

“Hindi ko po siya magagawang patayin dahil siya na ang nakagisnan kong lolo,” said Tamayo who is currently detained at the OCPO, Station 1.
