MAYOR “BONG” GORDON SUPPORTS WeDPRO

The Olongapo City Council (Sangguniang Panglungsod-SP) recently passed Resolution No. 12 “Ratifying the Memorandum of Understanding entered into by and between the city government of Olongapo and the Women’s Education, Development, Productivity and Research Organization (WeDPRO), Inc. Buklod Center, Inc.”

“I signed this resolution because I want this organization to prosper and be able to implement more projects for the protection of women and children in the city,” Mayor James Gordon, Jr. stressed.

According to the resolution, “the city fully supports the cause of every person particularly women and children and unequivocally conforms to the state’s policy of valuing human life and dignity.”

The Women’s Education, Development, Productivity and Research Organization (WeDpro), Buklod Center, Inc. is a women’s organization that seeks to serve a dynamic catalyst within the women’s movements and other social movements working for people-oriented, gender-fair programs and services that ensures women empowerment.

Buklod Center, on the other hand is a non-government organization (NGO) in Olongapo City, working to help women and children trafficked into prostitution. It provides a health clinic where women and their families can avail of health-check up. Buklod’s main programs include Organizing, Education and Networking/Advocacy and Direct Services. Under Direct Services they support children and women who are victims of human trafficking and prostitution. Buklod also encourages women to continue with their education through the DepEd "Alternative Learning System" or (ALS).

Councilor Elena C. Dabu sponsored the said resolution which was passed unanimously by the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
